I’m in Vermont for the weekend of amazing skiing in Vermont. It was a low of minus 22F on the mountain today so we were mildly cold. Supposed to be a bit warmer tomorrow and nearly summer on Sunday with ~40 degrees. Since we love bacon, we decided to buy 12 pounds of it. Yes twelve whole pounds!
We fit 3 sets of skiis and two snowboards on the roof rack. Plus 4 guys in the car and all of our stuff. Mazda 3 hatch is pretty darn practical! Aftermarket exhaust sounds quite nice too. Needs a giant turbo though.

Bacon strips and bacon strips and bacon strips so, uh, epic meal time?

You bought the wrong bacon, son. You’re in Vermont, VT Smoke and Cure, Dakin Farm, or GTFAC. (McKenzie is acceptable if you’re budget constrained).

I didn’t even know Vermont was well known for bacon. I just know this kind was so good last year that I had to buy a bunch more to bring home

I didn’t even know these were still a thing! I remember seeing them before YouTube channels were even a thing. Probably before Google even had anything to do with them.

when you’re skiing in Vermont, “12 lbs of bacon” is basically “almost out of bacon.”
source: me, spending my day sitting in a tree in the Thumb of Michigan, which right now is about as cold as Vermont. i’d have loved to have some bacon to munch on; alas, I brought no food.

Vermonters don’t abide crappy bacon. If it’s not local it has to at least be good to be sold here. The VT smoke and cure is, honestly a bit pricy, but very good. Dakin Farm is even better, but hard to find outside chittenden and addison county. If you go to the factory store they sell ends and trim for half price. They also have other fine meat-foods and smoked cheeses...
Vermont Salumi Co Bacon is high quality, but too sweet in my oppinion. There are also many small, local smokers that do very fine bacon.

what’ll really bake your noodle is that apparently, for some reason, Vermont is famous for curry.
well, that is, at least in Japan:

y’know, I thought I had read something about that before, but your link went into much more detail. Thanks for that.
and I can see it. I’ve bought and eaten the Vermont Curry packs available here; where I live (SE Michigan) we have a few pockets of Japanese residents. Livonia/Plymouth/Farmington/Novi/Commerce Twp and Ann Arbor. there’s a small place in Novi (Ajishin) which is about the closest replica to a typical noodle shop in Japan. When I worked for Alpine and later Sony, our visitors from the Japanese offices always wanted to go there. and their “curry rice” was pretty damn close to the Vermont Curry packs.
I guess it was familiarity. I never understood it; when I’ve been to another country I’ve always wanted to eat their food. I don’t go to Japan or Russia to go to McDonald’s.

Sushi may seem exotic to us, but its traditional, and the Japanese, as a people, are fundamentaly not very adventurous eaters. Older people, like business executives, even more so. They have a strange penchant for experimenting with flavors, but the base foodstuff is pretty staid.

To me, that’s like saying “Well, she didn’t give the
best
bj..” But still pretty good. ‘Cause it’s a bj. And bacon.

Relevant to your interests: my favorite townie bar with the best basic bar burgers ever (a.k.a. you used to get your burger on nothing but a piece of wax paper but a couple years ago they got fancy and started giving you a plastic basket with wax paper in it):
